Austria is in the global vanguard of environmental technologies and services

Besides top performance in water management, Austria also developed environmental technologies and environmental solution concepts in many other areas at an early stage. In an EU comparison, the Austrian Republic created legal foundations for waste separation and disposal before other European countries and that way motivated innovations in sensor technology, among others.

The percentage of consumption of renewable energy sources in Austria is traditionally higher than in other EU countries. Since the beginning of the 1980s, it has been constantly above 20 percent. By 2020, it should be 34 percent.

The Austrian environmental technology industry reports growth in turnover of almost eight percent annually. That is two percent more than the world average. The growth market of the future is renewable energies.
